profile_1Unless you have unlimited financial sources, chances are your holidays will have a fixed budget.  This means you’re going to have to shop around for the best hotel deals, the best transportation deals, and watch how much money you spend on souvenirs, events, and food.  One way many people try to cut spending is by avoiding eating at expensive restaurants while travelling.

One way of doing this is to rely on non-perishable foods.  You can purchase crackers, bagels, doughnuts, bread, cereal, muffins, and other foods from a supermarket once you arrive at your hotel.  Yes, you’re still spending money, but these items are usually much cheaper than eating out.  Generally, these foods take the place of eating breakfast out, although you can always have a bagel or a piece of fruit for lunch.  You can also eat these foods for snacks instead of purchasing candy out of the vending machine.

Some hotels offer a free continental breakfast.  If you’re staying at one of these hotels, you won’t have to worry about eating out.  These breakfasts usually aren’t anything extraordinary—most of them feature bagels, cereal, toast, and fruit instead of hot food.

Eating fast food is also an option.  Fast food is usually fairly cheap, but it’s not the healthiest choice.  However, it is a complete meal, and it will fit in your budget.  Often, fast food is a good lunch choice.  Many people eat their non-perishable, store-bought groceries for breakfast, visit a fast food place for lunch, and then go to a nice restaurant for dinner.  This isn’t a bad plan, actually.  You should allow yourself to visit nice restaurants while on your luxury holidays.  Part of visiting a different location, after all, is trying new foods.  Let yourself sample the local cuisine.  Just don’t get carried away—you may want to skip the appetizer, dessert, or alcoholic beverage as a way of staying within your budget.
